Palak Paneer is one of the popular Indian Curries made from Paneer (Indian Cottage Cheese) and Palak (Spinach). This recipe is prepared with a vibrant green curry of palak and paneer cubes. Palak Paneer Recipe provides nutritious value as this recipe is high in protein, rich in iron and calcium, and low in calories.
Ingredients:
250 gm Paneer
300 gm of Spinach
2 Medium Onions
2 Medium Tomatoes
1-2 Green Chillies
2-3 tbsp Oil of Ghee
1 tbsp of Ginger-Garlic Paste
1 tbsp of Cumin Seeds
1 tbsp of Garam Masala
1 tsp of Red Chilli Powder
1 tsp of Turmeric Powder
2 tbsp Fresh Cream (Optional)
Salt to Taste
Instructions:
1). Blanch and Pureé Spinach
- With the help of a strainer, wash the spinach leaves throughly.
- Take a pan and add 3 cups of water with the some salt. Then add spinach leaves and blanch them for 2-3 minutes until they wilt.
- Transfer it immediately into a bowl of ice-cold water. This will help in retaining the green color of spinach.
- Drain the water from the spinach. and add spinach to a grinder jar with green chillies. Blend it into a smooth pureé.
2). Make Spinach Gravy
- Heat ghee, oil or butter in a pan.
- Add 1/2 tsp of cumin seeds and let them splutter.
- Add finely chopped onions and sauté them until golden brown.
- Add Ginger-Garlic paste and cook until the raw smell goes away.
- Add the pureé and cook until the oil separates from the masala.
- Add all the spices – Red Chilli Powder, Coriander Powder, Turmeric Powder and let them cook properly.
- Add spinach pureé to the pan and mix well.
- Cook it for 6-7 minutes of until the palak pureé is cooked.
- Add salt as required.
- Stir and add 1/2 tsp of Garam Masala.
3). Assemble Palak Paneer
- Add Paneer cubes directly to the gravy.
You can also pan-fry paneer cubes in some ghee until they are lightly browned and then add them to palak gravy. In this case, you don’t need to cook paneer further. Mix gently and turn off the heat.
- Stir in paneer cues and let it cook for 5 minutes on low heat.
This step is to be followed when you are directly adding paneer cubes without pan-frying them.
- Lastly, add 2 tbsp of low-fat cream or malai.
Palak Paneer is ready.
Serve it with roti, naan, paratha, or cumin rice. Add butter on top or cream while serving, if you want. Enjoy the deliciousness!
