Atta Halwa, also known as Wheat Halwa is a traditional Indian dessert made from whole wheat flour (atta), ghee, sugar and water. It’s a warm, rich and comforting sweet dish that’s often prepared during festivals and special occasions.
Ingredients
1 cup atta
1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
2 cups water
Dry fruits (optional)
Instructions
- Add 2 cups water in a kadai.
- Next, add 1 cup of sugar. Heat them and make a sugar solution. Let the solution come to a boil.
- Meanwhile, In another pan, add 1/2 cup ghee. When the ghee becomes hot, then add 1 tablespoons cashews or almonds. Fry the cashews till golden. Remove them and keep aside.
- In the same kadai, add 1 cup whole wheat flour (atta). Stir and mix well.
- Roast the whole wheat flour on a low to medium-low heat till the color changes. Stir continuously.
- When the atta has turned golden, you will get the aroma and it will release ghee.
- Then, add the hot sugar solution to the atta mixture. Be careful.
- Stir continuously and mix well. You cannot take break at this step.
- Keep on stirring so that lumps are not formed.
- Add fried cashews. Add any dry fruit of your choice.
- Keep stirring non-stop. The halwa will absorb water and start thicken.
- When consistency becomes semi thick or thick of the halwa and ghee is released from the sides. Then switch off the heat.
- Serve wheat halwa as a after meal dessert.
